About The Cinema

The CineMagic is a single screen movie theater that originally opened in 1914 as the Palm. It has since seen a succession of owners and name changes, including:cinemagic

– the Hawthorne (1915),
– the Star Hawthorne (1934),
– the Zephyr (1937),
– the Plaza (1938),
– the Fine Arts (1957),
– the Columbia (1987), and finally
– CineMagic (1991).

Today, the CineMagic plays an eclectic mix of films, and does things just a little differently.  Tasty popcorn with real butter, local beer, soda with real sugar, and a tiny 1950’s restrooms are just a few things that set the 100 year old cinema apart.

spotlight-chuckThe Cinema’s owner, Chuck Nakvasil, grew up in Scappoose, Oregon, and currently resides in SE Portland. He is proud to be a part of the local community. The owner and staff of the The CineMagic Theater look forward to seeing you at the movies!
