Construction, Cats, and Evil Toys

Pictured: The new space, with co-owners Ryan (who seems genuinely happy) and Nick (who just wants to get back to painting).

We’ve got the keys to the neighboring space, and we’re off to work. We’re mostly checking over the basics, (plumbing, electrical, etc.) so there isn’t much to show yet. We do, however, have a photo of a half-painted wall. Enjoy!

VHS Night: Demonic Toys

Before David S. Goyer wrote the Dark Knight trilogy, he wrote Demonic Toys, an early 90’s straight-to-video horror film with killer dolls, demon babies and exploding chicken cars. It’s a glorious mess of a film, packed to the brim with strange narrative choices, and even stranger performances.

Also, this month we’ve got a VHS trailer pack with all new trailers*. If you don’t usually come for pre-show, it’s worth checking out. The straight-to-video boom produced some truly spectacular trailers, and we open every VHS night with 30 minutes of the best.

Demonic Toys plays Friday, November 3. VHS Trailers at 9:30, movie at 10:00. Tickets

*We might run one repeat trailer, because people start complaining if we go too long between Shakmas.

The Cat - Encore Show

We played The Cat a few weeks ago. It was awesome, and it sold out, so we’ve lined up an encore show.

A space cat known as “The General” teams up with novelist Wisely to hunt down a malicious alien that can possess humans. It’s bonkers, but The Cat has more than novelty value. Like all of director Lam Ngai Kai’s films, it crafts a surprisingly effective narrative alongside all the madness.

The Cat plays Friday, November 10 at 9:30. Tickets

Now Showing: Killers of the Flower Moon

Martin Scorcese’s newest epic will play daily through November 2nd. Tickets
