This Week: Staff Picks!

Once every few months we hand over the reins and let our staff of movie geeks pick the movies. This week we’ve got hellbilly horror, quintessential 90’s indie, early Guillermo Del Toro, and a Bob Fosse musical classic.

JJ’s Pick: Cabaret

JJ: Cabaret entices you with camp and sensuality, only to throw you face first into fascism. Humor, music, beauty, tragedy, Liza Minnelli — Cabaret has everything you could want in a movie.

Ethan’s Pick: Swingers

Ethan: This movie is so money it doesn’t even know it, BABY!

Kay’s Pick: Mimic

Kay: Mimic is Guillermo del Toro's 2nd film, and even in 1997, his voice as a filmmaker is so distinct. It's campy, gritty, dark and magical all at the same time. It's a gem the cinema world forgot.

Alex & Logan’s Pick: The Devils Rejects

Alex: With a cast that's chock full of cult actors, an eagerness toward violence, an amazing soundtrack and a pitch black sense of humor, this movie is sure to affect you in more ways than one.

Logan: My favorite part about this staff pick is that my brother and I unknowingly chose one of the same movies. The Devil’s Rejects is far more nihilistic than House of 1000 Corpses (ed: the movie it’s a loose sequel to), but the backwoods fun of the Firefly Family is in full effect, this soundtrack is killer, and its brutal fun for all the psychos in your life.

Ryans Pick: The Running Man

Ryan: This is secretly one of my favorite movies, and it’s about become unavailable during the lead up to a new adaptation, so it was now or never. Here is Subzero! Now, plain zero!

That’s it for this week, but we’ve got lot more on the horizon, so check out the coming soon page. We’ve also got some big announcements on the way, including a whole bunch of John Carpenter, and another round of 35mm film!
